Key Points from the 2018-2020 Immigration Levels Plan“Ottawa, November 1, 2017 — Following the tabling of the 2017 Annual Report to Parliament on Immigration on November 1, 2017, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada is pleased to release details on its 2018 multi-year Immigration Levels Plan. Canada will welcome 310,000 new permanent residents in 2018, 330,000 in 2019 and 340,000 in 2020.”

Key things to note:

  • The caregiver program is geared to shut down – from 20,000 to 5,000 (just clearing up what’s in the inventory).
  • Economic programs are 57% of the target, similar to last year, but note that the federal business program is almost non-existent – less than 1000 cases to accept.
  • There will be a strong provincial nominee program – 75% of the Federal worker program.
  • Family sponsorship is down to 27% from over 30%; the refugee program is up almost 14% from less than 10%.
