Ask Jennifer: How do you renew your permanent resident card?
In Canada permanent resident cards are used to facilitate a speedy entry into the country and as ID. The card must be renewed every five years, and for it to be renewed, you must have lived in Canada for at least 2 out of the past 5 years. If you are travelling or out of the country around the expiry of the card it can be a problem. It takes about 6 months to renew, so make sure to remember when it expires!
